The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. It is one of five Newton Townships statewide. No municipalities are located in Newton Township, although the unincorporated community of Jasper lies in the eastern part of the township. The other twelve all touch townships from neighboring counties. Located in the central part of the county, it borders the following townships:Īlong with Seal Township, it is the only Pike County township completely surrounded by other Pike County townships.
